Proadrenomedullin (45-92), human has a longer half-life, is relatively stable and is produced in equimolar amounts to adrenomedullin (ADM), making it a surrogate for plasma levels of ADM gene products[1][2].

ADM cannot be easily determined directly, because of the masking by binding proteins, instability in serum and stickiness to surfaces.
