Fmoc-Phe-OH is a natural compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties. The biological properties of Fmoc-Phe-OH are not well understood, but it has been shown to have anticancer effects in some cases and to inhibit axonal growth when combined with the protein laminin. Fmoc-Phe-OH can be synthesized by the reaction of pheine with trifluoroacetic acid followed by treatment with h9c2 cells. The analytical method for determining the concentration of Fmoc-Phe-OH is based on intramolecular hydrogen exchange between hydrogen atoms on the amide group and hydrogens on neighboring methylene groups.
